Boat Open Day & River Festival
Sunday, 7 August 2005 (11am-5pm)
By Jesus Green Lock
Following its huge popularity last year, residential boat owners in Cambridge will once again be opening their hatches to the landlubbing public at the 2nd Cambridge Boat Open Day and River Festival.
Between 11am and 5pm on Sunday 7th August, the river by Jesus Lock will be packed with boats of all shapes and sizes, from traditional narrowboats to genuine Dutch barges and even a Dragon Boat. Anyone interested in river life – or just enjoying a picnic on the green – is invited on board to see inside the boats, talk to the owners and learn more about just who Cambridge boat-dwellers are and how they live.
Riverboat Rosie will be making hourly trips down the Cam for £3. Camboaters T-shirts will be available to buy. The rest of the event is entirely free of charge, and a rare opportunity to experience at close hand the variety and excitement of river life. Families are welcome, although children must be accompanied by an adult.
