Camboaters is a vibrant and diverse residential boating community moored along the River Cam in Cambridge. Every year, Camboaters, Cambridge City Council, Conservators of the River Cam, Anglian Water's RiverCare and Encams organise the Great Cam Clean-Up – a clean up of the River Cam from Granchester Meadows to Bottisham lock.
You are invited to lend a helping hand to this much-loved and much-used river by participating in the event. It's the perfect excuse to get out there and do something for our fine city, as well as express your environmental ethic and love of rivers and wildlife... or simply enjoy a day by the river!
The event gets bigger and better every year. Last year, more than 170 volunteers collected over 400 bags of recyclable and general rubbish from the river and its banks. Hard-working grapple teams recovered a whopping 100 bikes from the riverbed and three motorised scooters were retrieved from Stourbridge Common.
This year is the 5th Great Cam Clean-Up and will take place on Saturday 25 April 2009. The day will officially be opened by the Mayor of Cambridge, Councillor Mike Dixon. Registration will commence at 10:00am at the Fort St George, Midsummer Common and wind up with a barbeque for all volunteers.
If you wish to help with the clean-up, can assist in recruiting volunteers or provide food or equipment, please contact us. Please also let us know if you are a qualified First Aider.
Camboaters particularly welcomes other local organisations to join in this event and build upon the success achieved in the past 4 years. Due to popular demand, volunteers are reminded to register early to avoid disappointment.
We look forward to seeing you there!
